The "Oops-I-Forgot-That" RV List
You planned, you packed, you double-checked the list.
Then you hit the road—and realized there were things you didn’t even know you needed. 😅
Welcome to RV life!
Some things just don’t make it on the checklist until after your first trip.
Here’s a list of those “why didn’t I bring this?” items that most RVers only figure out after their first time out. Save this list so you’re ready next time!
🔧 1. Extra Sewer Hose (and Support)
Your hose was too short?
Or maybe the hookup was uphill? Yep, it happens.
✅ Bring an extension hose and a hose support ramp to help the waste flow (gravity matters!).
🔌 2. Power Adapters and Surge Protector
Not every campground has the right plug.
If you’re 30-amp and they only have 50? You’ll need a dogbone adapter.
✅ A surge protector is also a must—it keeps your RV safe from bad power.
💧 3. Water Pressure Regulator
Some campgrounds have super high water pressure. That’s great for showers… but not for your RV pipes.
✅ A simple regulator saves you from blown lines and leaks.
🧻 4. Trash Can That Fits Somewhere
You remembered trash bags—but not where to put them!
✅ Get a small or foldable trash can that fits under the sink or hangs on a cabinet.
🧯 5. Flashlights (Yes, More Than One)
For late-night hookups, pet walks, power outages, or a run to the bathhouse.
✅ Keep at least one by the door, one in the tow vehicle, and one by the bed.
🚪 6. Door Mat (Or Two!)
You’ll want one outside the door to knock off dirt, and maybe one inside to protect your floors.
✅ Bonus: Keeps sand, mud, and pine needles out of your socks.
🪑 7. Camp Chairs You’ll Actually Sit In
The cheap ones break. The heavy ones don’t get used.
You won’t know your favorite chair style until you live in it for a week.
✅ Look for comfort, weight, and ease of setup.
🧰 8. Small Tool Kit
Something will rattle loose. Something will leak.
Something will need a twist, tighten, or patch.
✅ Include screwdrivers, zip ties, duct tape, a wrench, and a multi-tool.
🧺 9. Laundry Bag (Or Pop-Up Basket)
You might have packed clean clothes perfectly…
But where do the dirty ones go?
✅ Lightweight baskets or soft-sided bags work great in small spaces.
🧼 10. Cleaning Supplies (In Tiny Bottles)
Dust, spills, bug guts on the windshield—it’ll all show up.
✅ Bring:
-
Dish soap
-
All-purpose spray
-
RV-safe toilet cleaner
-
Paper towels or microfiber cloths
🌧️ 11. Rainy-Day Entertainment
If you’re stuck inside because of weather, you’ll be glad to have:
-
Card games
-
Books
-
Downloaded movies
-
Puzzles or art kits
✅ Don’t count on campground Wi-Fi!
🧭 Final Thoughts
RVing is one of those things you learn by doing.
So don’t worry if your first trip feels a little messy or missing something.
The good news? You only forget things once. Then you add them to your personal packing list for next time.
And with this list? You’re already ahead. 🚐✅🧡
