This campground is a true hidden gem close to the city. The RV sites are split between the flats and the ridge, so choose carefully for what makes sense to you (I have only stayed on the ridge). There is plenty of hiking, beautiful views and there is always the lake. Because it's near a busy metropolitan area, there can be some noise from the city, so don't imagine the tall trees and dense forest mean you are in the middle of know where! It's run by EBMUD, so has a different look and feel than older state or county parks and in my opinion, a bit nicer. If you forget something or want to eat out, stores and restaurants are 20 minutes away. Lots of tent camping spots are available in the park as well, so if you have a small rig and don't need hook-ups, the options increase (note; NO GENERATORS ALLOWED).
