📖 About This Campground
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park Campground south of Big Sur California is located on Highway 1 at mile marker 36. 2 primitive hike-in tent campsites are available with majestic views of the Pacific Coastline. Camping is extremely popular year round and is generally available only by advance reservation. Contact park headquarters at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park to get specific parking and payment instructions. It is a short hike down to the campsites from the roadway/ parking area. Porta-potties provides restroom facilities.
Located on the bluffs overlooking the jagged California Coastline this is a premier camping location. A short walk takes you to the overlook to McWay Falls and campers also have foot trail access to Redwood Hiking in Big Sur.
Easily one of the most amazing places to camp it is advised only for adults and children old enough to listen; some of the sites sit at the edge of a giant bluff down to rocks and the ocean. This setting adds to the mystique of the campground. Combined with the hike in nature the campsites tend to be less crowded and lesser known. The only distraction from the camping is the flow of people on the trails heading down to the scenic falls; this traffic tapers rapidly after dark.
